Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how MovieTalk Speaking ("the App", "we", "our") handles your information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data You Provide
- Imported Movies and Subtitles: When you import a movie file or subtitle file into the App, that content is stored locally on your device only. We do not upload, transmit, or access these files in any way.
- Movie Names and Translations: Custom movie names you set and subtitle translations you generate are stored locally on your device.
- Practice History: Your speech practice history (sentences you have spoken) is stored in a local SQLite database on your device.
1.2 Permissions We Request
- Microphone: Required for speech recognition during language practice. Audio is processed by Apple's on-device speech recognition. We do not record, transmit, or store your voice.
- Speech Recognition: Apple's iOS Speech Recognition framework is used to convert your spoken words into text for practice feedback. This processing happens on-device.
- File Access: When you import a movie or restore a backup, iOS shows a native file picker. We only access the specific file you select.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifiers
- Your contacts, photos, location, or calendar
- Audio recordings — speech is processed in real-time and discarded
- The content of your imported movies or subtitles
- Any analytics about your usage of the App
2. Third-Party Services
2.1 Google AdMob (Mobile Advertising)
The App displays banner and interstitial advertisements through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). To deliver these ads, AdMob may collect:
- Device advertising identifier (IDFA), if you allow tracking
- Device type, operating system version, and language
- General geographic location (country/region level)
- Crash logs related to the advertising SDK
You can disable personalized ads by going to Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising and turning off "Personalized Ads", or by limiting ad tracking on iOS.
You can purchase "Remove Ads" inside the App to disable all advertising. After purchase, AdMob is no longer initialized.
For more information, see Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
2.2 Google User Messaging Platform (GDPR Consent)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform to obtain consent for personalized advertising in compliance with GDPR. Your consent choices are stored locally and forwarded to AdMob.
2.3 Apple Services
- Apple Translation Framework: When you tap "Translate" on a movie, or when the Help screen is auto-translated, processing happens entirely on-device using Apple's on-device Translation framework. No text leaves your device.
- Apple Speech Recognition: Speech-to-text is processed on-device whenever possible. Apple's privacy practices apply: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- StoreKit (In-App Purchase): The "Remove Ads" purchase is processed by Apple. We receive only a transaction receipt to verify your purchase.
- App Store Connect / TestFlight: Standard Apple analytics for crash reports and beta testing.
3. How Your Data Is Stored
- All user-generated content (imported movies, subtitles, practice history, custom names) is stored locally on your device only.
- The App does not maintain any servers, databases, or cloud storage of user data.
- If you delete the App, all locally stored data is removed (except for purchases tracked by Apple).
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party. The only data transmitted from the App is:
- Ad serving requests to Google AdMob (with the limited data described above)
- GDPR consent signals (in the EEA only)
- Standard iOS system telemetry from Apple (crash reports, etc., per your iOS settings)
5. Children's Privacy
MovieTalk Speaking is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
